Hello friends, home from Scotland, and Ireland just before that. Here's a view from near the top of Calton Hill outside Edinburgh where 6 of us hiked about two weeks ago. My first trip here right after my ninth Inishfree Tour of the Emerald Isle left me speechless more times than I can count. The rugged and sheer beauty, the friendliness, the forward thinking of a culture that has a history I'm only scratching the surface of, an abundant love of country, and a quirky sense of playfulness right down to the shelves of grocery stores (never mind what I was doing in the cake mix aisle).

Thank you, Scottish Folk Tours, and more trips to come.

Time to announce the reboot of the Cape Cod Songwriters Retreats this coming January 9-13 and March 6-10, 2023! This past spring the Lands End Inn (where we had gathered since 2014) changed hands, and through an extraordinary set of circumstances we've found the perfect new home...the Brasswood Inn right in the heart of town on Commercial Street.

Meet Tom Westmoreland and Brian Calhoun, welcome to our new home at 174 Commercial Street, and go this link to follow the amazing synchronicity that leads us to their doors in 2023:
The short version is that Tom and Brian ~ lifelong musicians ~ have fashioned their Inn (formerly called the White Wind and purchased by them in 2019) around a vision of inclusivity and creativity, and after we up a few weeks ago we whole-heartedly agreed that this must be the new home of the CCSR. Tom plays brass, Brian, percussion. There's a marimba set up in the gathering room.
They've even named each of their 11 rooms after musicians...
That would be Ella. How about the Duke Ellington, Leonard Bernstein, Steven Sondheim, Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Carole King, George & Ira Gershwin, Dolly Parton, Billie Holiday, and Billy Strayhorn rooms? I'm over the moon.
This brings about changes (the one constant in the Universe).
11 rooms instead of 18...and thus a smaller retreat (we can still accommodate commuters). As it now stands with this more intimate capacity, I welcome the incomparable Sloan Wainwright to my side once more as fellow instructor and guide.
Our days will be filled with songwriting, singing, performance, creativity, song circles, coffeehouses, all meals, and more.
The cost is $1200, which includes a 4-night stay in one of 11 rooms (queen bed), private bathroom, mini-fridge in each room, all classes, group activities, and all meals.
*Bring a second person to share your room, and they pay half for the full program (commuters too): $600
