You heard what I heard that Tuesday night
It was more than my mind could ingest
They spoke of Ohio, what people were eating
Nothing I’d ever have guessed
The mayor of Springfield came right on my TV
Debunking outrageous complaints
“We aren’t ignoring the strain we are facing
But we put our arms around change”
And change isn’t easy
But Springfield is decent and safe
And it would be helpful if people used care
With the words that they use in debate
It hurts every one of us in our community
And none of those words were the truth
By casting this light where it doesn’t belong
Only fuels the fires of abuse

So please come to Springfield, we welcome you here
There is nothing to fear in our town
We’ll all grab a table at Rose Goute’s Restaurant
Just come on right in and sit down
Meet your neighbors, they are human
Come see with your very own eyes

We all live here
Together

Let nobody say otherwise
